Text and Subtext

A good example of a situation in which it would be better to try and get what you want indirectly, rather than asking for what you want would be a guy asking a girl on a date. The reason why this would be a good example is because the guy might be shy and would want to ask the girl out in a way that would seem less awkward for him. The approach that the guy would take would ask the girl what her plans are for the weekend. If the girl has a response like "I don't have anything planned" the guy could take the initiative and ask the girl if she would like to do something like go see a movie.
